Sleepy Monday

I'm sure we've all had those days where, all day long, if given a few minutes of doing almost nothing, you nod off for a micro nap. Well, today was one of those days. I didn't get to bed until after midnight and ended up waking up before 6. I know I didn't have enough sleep when I nodded off watching the tantalizing Giada DeLaurentiis on the Food Network...unheard of I know! Up until a few months ago, I used to make it a point to take naps during the day, either during lunch or when I got home from work. I'm not sure what happened to that routine to be honest. Sleep is something that's often underestimated and always taken for granted. I learned to value my sleep last year when I suffered pretty serious insomnia. As a result of my brother's passing in January of last year, I had to take a sleeping pill just about every night for several months following. I dreaded it. I would try to go without it time and time again without success. I was able to fall asleep ok but could never stay asleep for more than an hour or 2 at a time. It plain old sucked ass but I understood it was completely normal. Last January opened up a huge door of anxiety that I've been dealing with most of my life. It never really affected daily activities until last year. It was very confining and terribly frustrating at times. Nevertheless, in September, 2007, I had enough things going on that, afterwards, one full night's rest become a few which turned into several and I never looked back. I happily put away my sleeping pills and LOVED being able to sleep through the night again. Anyway...

I taught our dog how to shake hands today! It was awesome!! I was genuinely excited that he was able to pick it up pretty quickly :)

Okay, I think I've done enough procrastinating for now. Still working on that engagement video for my friend...

Miscellaneous ramblings

...that should actually be the title of my blog but it's not "zingy" enough to me.

Really enjoying doggy ownership. Our little Kwyjibo ("Bo") is mostly an obedient, playful and happy dog. He does sleep a lot but I'm starting to think more that he takes after his owners (my wife and I). Often, we'll be plopped on the couch eating, watching TV, playing Rock Band, on the laptop or napping. Since none of those involve him, what else is there for a dog to do but sleep? Some of our friends got him a big, poofy bed that he absolutely LOVES. It's like his binky.

Tomorrow is a gathering of my wife's family to honor the 1 year anniversary of her grandmother's passing. Lunch afterwards, then way out to Anaheim for my mother-in-law's b-day dinner thing. We're going to a rip-off of Medieval Times only it's pirate-themed:

Went there last year for a couple of friends' birthdays and actually got pulled up to participate in the show. Mind you, neither of the b-day dudes wanted to do it so I sacrificed my dignity and shyness. I actually would rather not go. Mom-in-law first mentioned it to my wife earlier in the week without saying it was to be her b-day thing. I really wasn't keen on the idea partially because she had already bought tickets for us expecting us to go. Also, I have a friend's engagement video to edit that I keep putting off. Anyway, my wife then relayed to me that her mom threw a fit on the phone about it being for her b-day and how she's just trying to get the family together, etc. Well ok, if you put it THAT way.... So we had to ask a friend to watch 'Bo for us for the day. Sunday is a viewing of an extended family member's sister-in-law whom passed suddenly, earlier this week. It's also the Super Bowl and I want to have a small gathering at my house so I can actually watch the game for once. Still up in the air though.

On a much lighter note, the Lakers (FINALLY) traded Kwame Brown as well as rookie Javaris Crittenton to the Grizzlies for Pau Gasol. Already plenty of chatter about the Lakers being a Western conf. championship contender...when Bynum gets healthy. I can't imagine why anyone would want Kwame Brown at this point. When he gets the ball, everyone holds their breath. Is he going to screw up his dribble and turn it over? God forbid is he going to take a shot and brick the ball?? Accidentally pass it to the other team?

I wonder if I should check what's out there job-wise...just in case. You never know. It could happen. I despise job interviews with a passion.

Back to editing. Thanks for reading! Please comment :)
